Principal Contractor – Snowy Hydro 2.0 Climate Control Room

At Precise Air, we design and construct solutions that protect critical infrastructure.  For Snowy 2.0, we delivered a specialised Climate Control Room to safeguard key equipment.

Snowy 2.0 is a major expansion of the Snowy Hydro Scheme.  It will provide on-demand power generation and largescale energy storage, increasing the generation capacity of the Snowy Scheme by almost 50%.

As Principal Contractor, Precise Air delivered the full Design and Construct package for a Climate Control Room that is integral to the operational performance of Snowy 2.0.

This 7,000m² facility plays a critical role in preserving key hydroelectric turbine components until the site is ready to receive them.  Our design maintains a strict temperature and humidity of +5 and + 25 degrees, and less than 50% relative humidity to protect equipment integrity.

Building a climate-controlled room inside an existing warehouse in 3 months over the holiday season required meticulous planning, coordination, and approvals.

From securing a Complying Development Certificate (CDC) to obtaining the Occupation Certificate (OC), we worked closely with the Snowy 2.0 team, councils and certifiers to keep the project moving.

Our Lead Engineer and Construction Manager led weekly meetings with a multidisciplinary team. This included:

  • Architects
  • BCA consultants
  • structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire engineers
  • BMCS and Cool Room Panels suppliers

while managing all trades contractors.

Constructing a climate control room inside a logistics warehouse meant disassembling the original racking before building the Climate room.

With no existing drawings, our structural team surveyed the site and determined additional supports were needed to bear the load of the new installation.

During this project we installed:

  • 4 Temperzone Package Air-conditioning Units
  • 550 meters of ductwork
  • 450 meters of structural steel
  • 92 motion-sensor lights
  • 672 fire sprinklers
  • 1 mechanical switchboard
  • 1 DPP switchboard for light and power.

A, seamless, well-planned approach and close collaboration with stakeholders made all the difference in delivering on time, with zero injuries.

Together, we are helping Snowy 2.0 stay powered for the future.
