Project: Design and construct
Location: Sydney
Services: Fire services, System Upgrade, Compliance
The Lyric Theatre, one of Australia’s most iconic and innovative performance venues, underwent a $12 million refurbishment to elevate the audience experience. The upgrade included luxurious new furnishings, improved sightlines, cantilevered seating, and automated moveable walls to allow flexible space configurations.
Precise Fire was engaged to deliver the full design and construction of fire services for the project. The project was delivered smoothly, on time and within budget—despite the complexity of the architectural design.
One of the key challenges was integrating fire systems into the theatre’s dramatic new ceiling, which features a sculptural ‘waves’ design. Our team developed a custom solution to route fire services around the intricate structural steel framework without compromising aesthetics or performance.
Another innovation was the under-seat fire protection system for the newly installed cantilevered seating rows. This required a tailored approach to ensure full coverage while maintaining the theatre’s sleek design.
The scope of works included sprinkler systems, smoke detection, EWIS (Emergency Warning and Intercommunication System), upgraded fire panels, and activation/control of fire curtains and exit lighting.
Precise Fire’s expertise ensured the Lyric Theatre’s safety systems matched the sophistication of its world-class design.
