Sustainability program of upgrades – The Oasis
Builder: Precise Air
The Oasis is a shopping centre development that was built in 1989. Owned by Abacus Group, in 2023- 2024 they partnered with Fujitsu and Precise Air and invested in mechanical upgrades.
The 600kw and 1600kw chillers at The Oasis shopping centre were starting to reach their end of life, which means they were using older technology and older refrigerants with higher global warming potential.
Collaborating with Fujitsu during the engineering and specification stage allowed the team to select two environmentally friendly Fujitsu Airstage chiller.
The new chiller utilises an ecofriendly refrigerant that significantly reduced global warming potential compared to traditional refrigerants.
Replacing the original chillers that were reaching end of life, the new AIRSTAGE chillers use Danfoss TurboCor compressors and the HFO refrigerant R513a that has a Global Warming Potential of 573, which achieves a reduction of
56% compared to commonly used refrigerant R134a.
To coincide with this installation, Fujitsu’s Italian Factory chiller expert conducted training sessions with the Brisbane and Gold Coast teams on site at The Oasis Broadbeach.
This gave the teams the unique opportunity to receive hands on and theoretical training direct from the manufacturer, and was an invaluable opportunity to learn about
the latest in environmental friendly chiller technology.
The close partnership between the three stakeholders allowed for our engineering and contracting capabilities, coupled with Fujitsu General’s product expertise and knowledge.
