Our next International Women’s Day interview features Laura Fonti – Precise Air’s National Accounts Manager.
Laura has found that being the only woman without a trade background in the room doesn’t have to be a constraint.
Diversity in ideas and experience can lead to more creative problem solving for clients and is one of the reasons Laura thrives on being a positive influence for other women. Read Laura’s story below…
How did you end up working in this field?
Around ten years ago I saw an opportunity to move into an exciting young business that really wanted to grow. I had been working in administration where my skills were easily transferrable across industries.
I felt that my skill set would suit the business and that I would have the opportunity to grow my career and gain exposure in new industries.
What do you love about your role and the industry?
Being in a more traditionally male dominated industry provided challenges but that landscape is quickly changing. No two days are the same, which I love.
Do you see any particular challenges being a female in a non-traditional role in the industry?
The technical knowledge of a female in our industry can be challenged at times. This is slowly changing however it takes hard work and determination to make a difference and succeed.
It is always satisfying to collaborate with clients in a positive manner when often I may be the only female in the meeting. I think that being exposed to the issues faced at the grass roots in the varied roles and departments I have been lucky to work in has really helped in my ability to understand and see things from a client’s perspective.
What contributions do you give to make a difference in the industry?
I know my ability to manage, plan and multi task in a fast paced environment allows me to be part of the success Precise Air is experiencing in the industry. I feel that my skills and contribution are really valued by the team.
What are your future career goals, aspirations, positions/titles?
I am looking forward to continuing to grow in the role and industry. I want to be able to contribute to the team by nurturing others including females into non-traditional roles within the team. I see this being a positive influence to our industry.
